Featured in the North Gallery during the month of June is work from two gallery artists, Caryn Friedlander and Yuko Ishii. In pairing these works we seek to highlight their shared organic elements, and invite further consideration of the ways each artist intuitively explores the mysteries of the natural world
Caryn Friedlander creates elegant wall-hangings of intuitive stitchery on silk. The intricate stitchwork responds to the formations of natural dyes created from organic elements drawn from the natural world around her.
Yuko Ishii is a self-taught artist from Japan who moved to Washington in 2001. She creates evocative mixed-media work that is a combination of photography, painting, assemblage and calligraphy.
