"Compassion is the ability to feel another’s pain. To understand their thoughts and the impact of actions on another’s life. It is a rare thing today and often frowned upon. I sometimes feel most of humanity is in suffering their own personal pain which leaves one with little room to feel for another. Yet it is only by understanding we all suffer in the same way can we gain any understanding of our personal pain.

These paintings were, for me, an emersion into the pain of another. The process of painting them was intense and required a deep scrutiny. I entered into the world of deep anguish and as invalid as it seemed for a brief moment I took on their pain and believed that perhaps by doing so I may elevate it.

Within the work I focused on children caught in the crossfire of a political situation. I tried to highlight the fragility of the human juxtaposed against a cold metal presence. Whilst at the same time shadowing this presence to represent the faceless aspect of this power."
