"The incredible temples of Angkor being rescued from the ravages of their jungle climate are testimony to the long and rich culture of the Cambodian people. Amidst the ruins of my favorite small temple a small band of musicians sat on the ground---some blind, many without hands, feet, limbs. With great dignity they played their traditional music----a reminder to us who are whole that this is a society that is trying to heal itself and renew its culture, shattered by the cruelties of the Khmer Rouge reign thirty years ago. While they are not on the front pages of our newspapers, it is my hope that we will not forget their continued suffering at the hands of a tyranical government, desperate poverty and unexploded ordinances which still claim lives and limbs. They should not be abandoned as their marvelous temples once were."
